What is “good light”?
When it comes to beauty and skin care, females seem to dominate the industry as both creators and consumers. But isn’t beauty and skin care meant for all? According to David Yi, founder of the personal care brand Good Light, beauty is gender inclusive. Launched in 2021, the brand aims to celebrate “beauty beyond the binary'' through science formulated, clean beauty products for all. In an interview with fashionmagazine.com, David Yi talks about his mission behind Good Light and its purpose to help people find “self-actualization and love, self-worth and owning your beauty.”
Now Yi is no stranger to the beauty world. He began his career as a journalist writing for the likes of Vogue and GQ and then building up a community of like-minded peers through his digital publication Very Good Light. Listening to his community of those who were unsure of which side of the beauty gender they should be shopping in, whether it be made for men products or the mainstream female targeted products, he wanted to create a brand that was inclusive to all to feel empowered in their own skin no matter who they identified with.
Which products are in “good light”?
The current generation of consumers are educated and want more from their skin care than just enticing marketing and pretty packaging. Although being Instagram cute and shelfie worthy doesn’t hurt. Consumers want effective formulas that are scientifically proven to produce real results. Good Light initially launched with three products: the Cosmic Dew Water Cleanser at $18, the Moon Glow Milky Toning Lotion at $22, and the We Come In Peace Probiotic Serum at $24, as a simplified complete skin care routine. The brand has now added other skin loving goodies to their product line up since its debut.
The minimal skin care line is clean, vegan, cruelty free and created with high quality, efficacious ingredients that focus on repairing and reinforcing the skin moisture barrier function for a healthier and glowing complexion. All of their products are put through rigorous RIPT (Human Repeat Insult Patch Test) to determine any potential skin irritants and ensure their formulations are safe for all. This makes it great for all skin types, even sensitive skin babes. In addition to its message of spreading inclusivity, 1% of all sales is donated to True Colors United, an organization that implements innovative solutions to youth homelessness unique to the experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community.
“good light” for everyone
Not only does this sleek gender inclusive brand created with skin healing formulas, but it’s also a mid-range beauty buy, with no products over $30. Good skin care doesn’t have to break the bank. And we totally agree! Budget beauty finds for the win!
The brand is also careful not to make any miracle claims to fixing all your skin conditions. In fact, one of the philosophies behind the brand promotes celebrating your natural skin and embracing the uneven skin tone, texture, acne and all. We should love the skin we are in! When we nourish it with feel good ingredients, our skin will surely show us some love back.
With the creation of Good Light, Yi is creating a more inclusive niche in the beauty industry focused on breaking down gender norms and creating a new definition of skin care for everyone. We love that! Everyone is beautiful inside and out!
