What do you think of when you hear the name Mario Badescu? Pink acne fighting liquid! The iconic pink blemish drying lotion is probably the first thing that comes to mind for many beauties. Following the trend of the clean girl skin aesthetic; acne, pimples and blemishes are being targeted and hunted down. Acne is somewhat a rite of passage for many beauties. Unfortunately, it can also be a struggle to control, manage or get rid of. But have no fear, Mario Badescu is here! With the Mario Badescu Acne Repair Kit consisting of the Drying Lotion, the Buffering Lotion and the Drying Cream, you will have all the acne fighting tools you’ll need to banish those unwanted friends leaving your skin smooth, glowing and acne free.

Founded in 1967 by Romanian cosmetic chemist and pharmacist Mario Badescu, the iconic New York City based brand is best known for their signature facials and skin-loving product line. Badescu believed in analyzing each client's skin before treating them to make sure to target each of their specific skin concerns and needs. Let’s take a look at some of the products from the Acne Repair Kit.

The first product is probably the most recognized and has amassed a worldwide cult following over the years. The Drying Lotion and its liquid pink texture has graced the skin of acne prone beauties and celebrities alike. The overnight drying spot treatment is formulated with known acne fighting ingredients such as salicylic acid, sulfur and zinc oxide. It also contains a more soothing ingredient, calamine. One notable ingredient is the isopropyl alcohol, which is used to help dry out the targeted blemishes. However, if you’re not careful, this can also dry out the skin. The product comes in a glass bottle with two separated liquids: the pink calamine and clay at the bottom and the clear liquid on top. Most people’s first instinct is to shake up the liquid to mix it up. STOP! Don’t shake it! Follow the directions and insert a clean q-tip into the bottle until it hits the pink liquid at the bottom. Gently remove the q-tip and dab onto target areas as a spot treatment.

With the Buffering Lotion, it is a 15-minute wash off treatment meant to target larger and under the skin acne. This lightweight and quick absorbing formula consists of niacinamide, panthenol, allantoin and you guessed it, isopropyl alcohol to help dry out those blemish prone areas. I think we are starting to see a pattern here? Some reviewers of the product note that sure niacinamide, panthenol and allantoin are great ingredients normally found in leave-on products; but because the Buffering Lotion is on your face for such a short period of time, how much of the benefits are we actually seeing from these great acne fighting ingredients?

Similar to the Drying Lotion, the Drying Cream is another targeted spot treatment with a much thicker texture. This also contains another added ingredient called ichthammol, which is used to draw out to the surface of the skin dermis any of the acne bacteria that may be hiding under those angry red blemishes. Unlike the other two products, this one contains a bit of fragrance.

Curious to know if this acne fighting kit from an iconic skin care brand could work its magic on her problematic skin, Glowish influencer Jennifer is eager to test out all three products from the Acne Repair Kit line. Jennifer’s skin concerns include redness, acne and an oily combination skin type. The influencer first tries the popular Drying Lotion and says upon every application, she feels a burning tingle on her skin, but attributes that sensation as the product doing its job in drying out her blemishes and acne. Unfortunately, throughout the entire trial period, she uses the product incorrectly. This mistake could also be due to the lack of instructions on how to use each product, according to the influencer. When it came to the Buffering Lotion, because there were almost no instructions, she wasn’t sure how to use the product and ended up using it the least out of the three. With the Drying Cream, she applied it as a leave on spot treatment throughout the day and was pleasantly surprised by how well it dried out her acne. Though the products worked exactly as they claimed, Jennifer did not think it was worth the hype. However, if she were to choose one product to repurchase, it would definitely by the iconic pink Drying Lotion.

Will you be reaching for the Mario Badescu Acne Repair Kit this season? If not, how are you getting your beautiful complexion clean girl ready?
